Over the weekend, amidst all the cooking and “holloweening” I’ve done, I am glad to say that I have managed to squeeze in some reading. The timing couldn’t be more perfect. Mitch Albom’s “For One More Day” is a wonderful book for the occassion.
For One More Day tells a story of a mother, a son, and the extraordinary relationship they have that reaches beyond life. It is a beautiful, hauntingly rich novel about family, and the chances we miss. The pages are pretty thin and one can even finish the whole book in one sitting.
As for me, I took some slow time reading it. I found such wisdom, hope, and compassion in the pages, I couldn’t help mark some of them. Two of my favorite lines in the story are:
- “Every family is a ghost story”
- “What would you do if you could spend one more day with a lost loved one?”
Incidentally, Oprah had the book made into a tele-movie, under Harpo Films production. Lead stars are Micheal Imperioli (playing Chick Benetto) and Ellen Burstyn (as Posey). You can catch it airing this November in the Hallmark channel.
