For some reason, the news on the Cabuyao bank robbery and brutal killings didn’t sit well on me. Sprawled all over today’s paper is the headline, BATANGAS COPS KILL 4 IN RCBC FOLLOW-UP OPERATION. An article published in the Phil. Star confirmed reports on the shoot-out:
TANAUAN CITY, Batangas – Police have killed four suspects in the robbery of the Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. (RCBC) branch in Cabuyao, Laguna last Friday in which 10 people were murdered.
The police team leader, Senior Police Officer 1 Reynaldo Salazar, was wounded in the alleged shootout, and is recuperating at St. Cabrini Hospital in Sto. Tomas, Batangas.
Provincial police commander Senior Superintendent David Quimio told The STAR that Pepito Magsino, Angelito Malabanan, Rolly Lachica and former barangay captain Vivencio Javier, alleged members of the Lucido-Javier-Galicia robbery-kidnap/gun-for-hire gang, were killed in separate encounters in Tanauan City last Wednesday and yesterday.
I find this report utterly disturbing. I mean, for why would the cops kill “suspects”? They aren’t even sure if these men are really responsible for such heinous crime. Last I checked, Webster’s New World Dictionary described the word as:
sus-pect (vt) 1. to believe to be guilty on little or no evidence 2. to believe to be bad, wrong 3. to guess; surmise…
The key word here, is BELIEVE. Nothing is final–yet. So, why in the world were those cops in a shooting frenzy? Are they in the hunt for the P2M reward? Or there’s something bigger than the robbery itself? Hmm..your guess is as good as mine. Let’s just call it as it is. RUB OUT. Este, SHOOT OUT PALA.
